The CFCI Mission Trip Experience

Wondering what makes us unique?

Christ For the City is an international mission organization with missionaries in 14 locations in Latin America, Spain, and Mali, Africa. Over 75% of our missionaries are Latins ministering in their own countries and communities. Since the needs of each community and country are different, our missionaries are encouraged to match their ministries to the specific needs they see in their communities. This means that Christ For the City works in a very grassroots, organic way. We don’t have one ministry strategy we use in every country we work in. Our ministries in Mexico look much different than our ministries in Costa Rica or El Salvador because each location is experiencing different problems and different needs. This means you have as many options for your team’s mission trip as we have ministry locations. You can work in an orphanage, a drug rehabilitation center, a local church, or a slum.

We let you decide what you want your trip to look like. You can choose the dates, location, and activities for your trip. This allows you to fit your trip into your church or school’s calendar, to recruit team members more easily, and to utilize your team’s unique strengths by choosing the right outreach activities for your team. We hope that this helps each member of your team experience the fact that God created them with special gifts they can use to serve Him.

We are committed to helping you build lifelong relationships while you are with us. One way we do this is to provide a host family experience for our team members. Whenever possible we house our teams in pairs with local church families so they have the chance to see what life is really like in another country. Often this means bathing with cold water and a bucket, eating rice and beans for breakfast, and communicating without words, but whatever the struggles of living with a local family, team members have the chance to look beyond these differences and build relationships that they will never forget.

We have two types of mission trip teams:

Open Teams

Open teams are made up of people from all over the country (and other countries as well!) who aren’t able to sign up for a mission trip at church or school. On an open team, CFCI organizes everything from the logistics of the trip and pre-field preparation to your team devotional times and activities once on the field. Open teams are designed to give people a chance to join together and experience serving overseas, making new friends from all over the U.S., and strengthening their relationship with God. All you have to do is fill out the application and buy your plane ticket.

Self-led Teams

Most of our short-term teams are initiated by a church, school, or organization. These teams have their own team leader and recruit their own team members. Groups are able to choose what country they want to serve in, the dates of their trip, and what types of ministry and outreaches they would like to do. We love to work closely with teams to prepare a trip that will allow team members to use their unique talents and gifts. You’ll never see two trips look exactly alike, and the options available are endless. We will work closely with your team to help you prepare for your trip, and our missionaries will be with you every step of the way.
